Anjelica Cappellino co-authored “The Federal Sentencing Guidelines and the Pursuit of Fair and Just Sentences” with fellow alumnus and professor, John Meringolo
’99. The article was published in Albany Law Review’s “Miscarriages of Justice” issue in 2014. The piece examines the history of sentencing in the federal system and the creation and evolution of the United States Sentencing Guidelines. The article also discusses mandatory minimum penalties for drug offenses, and how these statutes effectively conflict with the Guidelines’ purposes,
as well as the future of federal sentencing in light of recent policy shifts, such as Attorney General
Eric Holder’s expressed support of changing mandatory minimums. Ms. Cappellino is an associate with Meringolo & Associates, PC in New York.
