PTO PATEnT CLInIC
Our PTO Patent Clinic gives students unparalleled real world experience fast-tracking patent applications and practicing before the Patent and Trademark Office.
Students work with Professor Michael Marcin—an experienced patent attorney and adjunct professor at NYLS—to consult with clients, determine patentability
of inventions, determine patent application strategy, conduct prior art searches, submit applications, respond to Patent Examiners, and provide related counsel services associated with patent applications and prosecution.
The PTO Patent Clinic provided me with the opportunity to learn how to be a lawyer by being someone’s lawyer. As
a student of intellectual property with
an interest in litigating patents, nothing provides better preparation than a hands- on education in patent prosecution. The opportunity to work with real clients and inventions has been invaluable: I was able to draft an entire patent application under the supervision of a practicing patent attorney as a law student, and that process was incredibly valuable to me in the field at my summer internship.
