AWArD WINNINg STUDeNTS
Our competition teams enable students to gain practical experience while representing the law school, testing their skills against students from schools across the country.
in the 2014-15 national Moot court competition, New York City region, moot Court Association members khalil assad 3L and evan bane 3L, came in first and won best brief, with mr. Bane also winning best individual oralist and mr. assad as the runner-up. they were coached by 3ls Michelle Murray and veronica Przygocki. Team members aruna chittiappa 3L and christine Maggiore 2L won First Place in the John J. gibbons criminal Procedure moot court competition at Seton hall law School. they were coached by Garret baldwin 4L (evening division). ms. chittiappa also won Best Preliminary round and Final round oralist. in october 2014, ms. chittiappa partnered with Leopoldo Guerra 3L, and student coach brian noel 3L, to reach the octo-Final round of the 2014 Burton d. Wechsler First amendment moot court competition at american university Washington college of law. ms. chittiappa also won the Best oralist award. Students naveed fazal 3L and alisha Sibigtroth 3L reached the Quarterfinal round at the international moot court competition in information technology & Privacy law at the John marshall law School.
in spring 2015, nYLS dispute resolution Team members bulent can 3L and alexander eaton 2L won the 2015 Fordham national Basketball negotiation competition. mr. eaton also was named Best advocate in the competition. the team was coached by amir amirov 3L and assistant coach Trevaughn Luncheon 2L (evening division). as first time participants at the international chamber of commerce’s 10th annual international commercial mediation competition in Paris, darley Maw 2L and colin McGeough 2L distinguished themselves among 66 entrants from six continents to end up among the top eight teams. the team’s participation was made possible by special support gratefully received from three alumni donors. the dispute resolution team also won prizes at the 2014 northeastern invitational mediation tournament.
at the 2015 national Student Trial advocacy competition sponsored by the American Association for Justice, Sean campbell 3L, andray cleghorn 2L, ashley horn 3L, and Stanley rothman 3L competed, conducting three mock trials in kings county State Supreme court. the team was coached by Professor david epstein, and robert Galantucci ’70, and Michael cirigliano ’11. in spring 2015, the group held an intramural competition in which mr. cirigliano, richard cohen ’85, david fish ’96, and fernando Maldonado ’13 served as judges.
