YEARS
newyork
law school
Kicks off its
125th
anniversary
Celebration
In 1891, a group of pioneering faculty
and students broke away from Columbia College School of Law to form New York Law School. They were driven by a distinct vision for how legal education should be delivered—an inclusive one that took into account students of all backgrounds, talents, and life experiences. Since 1891, NYLS has continued to be innovative and unique in tailoring a legal education to meet the needs of the legal profession. From being one of the first law schools in the nation to offer
an evening program for part-time, working students, to creating unparalleled practical and experiential opportunities for its students today, NYLS has never lost sight of how to serve its students.
Now, as NYLS approaches its 125th Anniversary, we are kicking off a year-long celebration to recognize past and current members of the NYLS family who helped achieve this major milestone. In August, NYLS launched a celebration to highlight and honor its rich past, while looking forward to the potential of the next 125 years. During the 2015-16 academic year,
the Law School will feature the significant contributions that faculty and alumni have made to the legal community in New York City and beyond.
125th anniversary Celebration plan
Throughout the academic year, the celebration will feature a different aspect of NYLS’s contributions to the law, including celebrating NYLS in the courtroom, in the boardroom, and across the globe. We will also showcase the impacts NYLS has made in public interest, government service, the arts, sports, and philanthropy. In each case, we will look back at our history, and look forward
to our future—and celebrate what NYLS is doing today in each of these areas.
To keep you informed about celebration plans and activities, we’ve launched a 125th Anniversary website—125.nyls.edu—to provide up-to-the-minute information. The site includes an events calendar and a link to historical archives as well as information about NYLS today. The site also serves as
a forum for the Law School community to
