anniversary events
During the celebration there will be a number of events to showcase the contributions NYLS has made to the legal profession globally,
the pivotal role it has played throughout
New York City’s history, and its continued commitment to educating and training the next generation of leaders and lawyers who will shape the profession. Events will span a wide range of subjects, some will include CLE credits, and all are free for NYLS alumni. If you haven’t visited the campus recently, now is a great time to renew your relationship with NYLS and join this momentous celebration.

One feature of the celebration is an opportunity for students, faculty, and more than 17,000 alumni to share their memories and artifacts. You can participate by sharing

“As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, we are on the move in meeting the challenges and seizing the transformative opportunities the new economy presents,” said Dean Anthony W. Crowell. “New ideas and enhancements are reshaping every aspect of the Law School. Like the great City of New York, we are continually evolving, and we are focused on ensuring a bright future for the students of New York Law School.”
There is nothing more important to our law school than celebrating the achievements of our
alumni and faculty, and there’s no better way to show our students the unlimited opportunities that await them than by honoring the history of our Law School community.
NYLS Board Chairman Arthur N. Abbey ’59 writes, “I started law school at another law school outside of New York City....I made [a] great decision shortly after I began classes...to change schools and enroll in NYLS...graduated in 1959. Became a NYLS Board Member and Chairman since 2000. Who would have ever thought....”
Board member Alan W. Clark ’77 recalls “great teachers and mentors such as Donald Shapiro, Alfred Julien, and Cyril Means, to name but a few.... My exercise ritual walking up and down the stairs at 57 Worth Street to attend classes. Too many Sabrett hot dogs from the local vendor across Worth Street. My fellow students helping each other to become successful lawyers.”
Nadine Strossen, the John Harlan Marshall II Professor of Law, writes that she has “an absolutely vivid, photographic memory of the first Constitutional Law class I ever taught—in August 1988....That’s because I was absolutely terrified! ...Fortunately, the students were gracious and grateful from the beginning, but it has been a joy to have the steady support and encouragement of my NYLS faculty and administrative colleagues for constantly growing in the professorial role.”
